This particular day for miss Zara Montes seemed to be dragging by. It didn't help that she'd been tossing and turning the entire night before. She just couldn't seem to get comfortable at all. Maybe it was the bruises all over her or maybe it was the thoughts on her mind. Things seemed to be getting so horribly out of hand lately. It seemed as if everyone was against her anymore. Well, not against her per se, but against her and beau being together. She understood that they were worried about her but they just didn't get it. She needed Beau. Needed him to think, needed him to breathe. He was everything to her. So maybe he wasn't perfect, but who was? And there was no way to say that he couldn't ever change. Maybe he would change. Maybe one day things wouldn't be so bad. After all, he did love her. That much she was sure of. And he never meant to hurt her. But people changed with time. And Beau could too. Zara fully believe that he could. It was simply part of the reason she stayed with him through the fear and the pain. Most others didn't get why she would want to stay with someone like him. But her emotions were getting in the way. Besides, he wasn't all bad. There were times when he was sweet and caring and everything she hoped he could be. In any case, she hadn't seen him at all that day. But she had been at his house the night before. The fresh bruises proved that. She was slow moving with the aches in her body, but she managed to make it to her closet just fine. When she'd gone about getting dressed, Zara had had to take extra time on her make up to try and disguise the horrible mark on her face. But try as she might, she knew it would still raise questions. Which was why she was going to visit one of the few people who didn't need to ask. Zara's best friend Lisette Kostos knew of her predicament and she disapproved whole heartedly, but she also knew what it was like to like Beau. So it was easier talking to her about these things. And so when she was done getting ready, Zara quietly descended the stairs, looking around for her mother as to avoid her and her undoubtedly heated questions. With no mother in sight the young girl darted through the main hall and out of the front door. Once outside, she placed her giant sunglasses over her eyes and proceeded to her car. Zara took the short and familiar journey to the Kostos residence without much thought. Mostly she was trying to keep her mind off of troubling things. The reason she'd decided to blare her music. If she couldn't hear her own thoughts, maybe she could be at peace for a little while. Pulling into the driveway, she cut the engine and slowly hopped out of the car. Rubbing the bruise on her right arm gently, she made it to the front door and rang the doorbell, hoping she would see that familiar face answer the door.

So many things were changing. If Maddox Kostos had to sit down and think about all the things in his life that had been revealed or the securities that had been taking away from him... he could sit there mulling over it all for hours on end. But after a while, he couldn't just sit and dwell anymore. The quick fix to clearing his mind, at least for a little while, was taking a ride on his Ducati. He glanced at the clock on his dresser, seeing it was fairly early in the morning, and decided not to ask his twin sister if she wanted a ride. Knowing her, she'd probably still be in bed, and quite frankly, Maddox didn't really want to talk to her. He was so close to just completely losing his cool. So close to just going over to Beau Wilkerson's house and beating the living daylights out of him. Savannah Munroe and Zara Montes were two of his very best friends. Maddox wouldn't admit it to anyone yet, but he was very much in love with the former. Before she'd been with Beau, he had been planning on telling the girl his feelings, but then things had happened, and they had been together. However, now they were broken up, and Maddox was relieved he could still have his chance. However, he disliked the cirumstances. Beau hit Savannah, busted some of her ribs, and Maddox hadn't found out until a couple days ago, the same day he found out Beau was abusing the other girl he was in a relationship with: Zara Montes. And to top it off, his twin sister Lisette was Beau's best friend, and she wasn't divulging any information about any abuse she may have suffered. Even on his beautiful motorcycle, the thoughts kept circling through his head. He must have been out for a while, because by the time he pulled back in front of the house, and pulled his bike in to the garage, the sun was high in the sky. Maddox walked inside his house, pulling off his leather jacket and laying it on the couch as he sank into it, leaning forward and putting his head in his hands. He might have stayed there for forever, if he hadn't heard the doorbell ring. His voice rang out, "Somebody get the freakin' door!" Of course it wouldn't occur to him that he should get it himself. Silence greeted his ears, and finally, with a long sigh, he heaved himself up off the couch. No one was home, so he had to deal with whoever the hell it was at the door. He was in no mood to see anyone, that much was evident on his face as his hand switched the lock and grasped the handle, turning to allow the door to swing open. His chocolate eyes narrowed slightly in surprise at the face before him. Had it been any other day, he would have laughed or smiled. But simply because it was this day, and he had so much information the he didnt want to know, he immediately noticed things he might not have picked up on first before. His eyes zeroed in on a mark feebly hidden on her face, and he felt himself grow cold inside. Without saying a word, he opened the door wider for Zara Montes to step inside. Before she even moved, however, his control snapped, "He hit you. He fucking hit you again." His tone was already elevated, not quite a yell yet. It was clear he was trying to control his temper, but Maddox Kostos had never quite mastered the concept of self control. STATUS: finished! Zara knew that all of her friends wanted to look out for her. She had always been the type of person who people felt they needed to watch out for. The young woman assumed it was mostly because of her innocent and child-like features. But she also knew that it had something to do with the fact that she was so nice. Even Zara realized that she was far too forgiving for her own good. It was a driving factor in why she stayed in her relationship. She was always so willing to forgive and forget. It was near impossible for young Zara to hold a grudge and at the moment she had none that she was aware of. She just didn't see the point in hate. Wasn't love what made the world go round, anyway? At least that was what they used to say. Lately it seemed to be driven by much pettier and more materialistic things. But the brunette could never seem to get caught up in those types of things. She valued the small and simple things in life the most. And honestly, it was the people around her that mattered the most to her. She didn't need fancy things and all this money. Not if she had them. And she hated to let any one of them go. Due to the fact that she felt she only had so many people she was close to, the thought of losing any of them was heart-wrenching. It didn't help that any sort of love that she gave was unconditional. When Zara liked you, she liked you. There really wasn't much room for in between. Not in her mind. And this was only making everything that she was going through much more confusing. Maybe if people would just leave her alone about it for a day, she could gather her thoughts together. But she knew them better than that. As she waited for someone to answer the door, she knew that if she spoke to her best friend that she would have something to say, something negative, but Zara would do her best to change the subject. She didn't need yet another lecture. After a few moments, the door finally did swing open and the person it revealed was actually the member of the household she was least hoping to see. He was a bit more temperamental than his twin. An imminent sinking feeling hit her as she saw him eye her features. Maybe he wouldn't notice. As soon as he opened his mouth, she'd known it had been too much to ask for. She flinched slightly at his words even though he hadn't been yelling them at all. Maybe she should just turn around and leave. But she still wanted to see Lisette. Ignoring his question, which sounded more like a statement, and walked inside of the house. Turning back him, she spoke. "Can I just talk to Lisette, please?" She knew she didn't need his permission, but it had become suddenly aware to her that the other girl might not be there. If that was the case, Zara had a strong suspicion that Maddox would not leave her alone. How wonderful.

Maddox's life had always been a series of ups and downs. His parents had divorced, his mother had moved away, and his family life revolved around his father and his two older brothers. The only people he'd really had left to depend on were his sister and his friends. For some reason, the ladies just so happened to be the main people on that front. He didn't really have many guy friends, which was odd considering he was generally well liked by most people. But boys had never been his forte: he found they were generally masoginistic assholes and that just wasn't what he was like. He liked the gentleness in women, the way they were soft and not so hard. They balanced out his personality better than most of the guys he knew, and besides, they always gave him something to protect. Maddox had always had that in him, that strange and overwhelming feeling, that he always needed to protect people. That was why he had reacted so strongly when he'd found out about the abuse his two best friends had been suffering through. Savannah had been hard enough, and he might have been able to cope with it if it had just been Savannah's news. But he was bombarded with Zara's, too, and it was weighing on him heavily, because he was powerless to do anything about it. He wanted a break from it all that day, but clearly that wasn't in the cards for him. He gazed at his beautiful friend's features, taking in every detail. The bruise, the way she flinched at his words. And that constantly growing anger in his stomach. This was too fucking ridiculous. This couldn't happen anymore. Maddox shook his head, jaw clenched as he said through his teeth, "She's not here." His tone was clipped, and his eyes shut suddenly as her raised a hand to pinch the bridge of his nose, taking a deep breath. It wouldn't do to yell at her. But he couldn't do it. It was all coming out now. When he spoke again, his eyes opened, flashing with the sudden anger he felt within him, "Damnit, Zara. This is fucking bull shit, and you know it." He turned on his heel, walking a little bit into his house, as he told her in a strained voice, "Come inside." STATUS: finished! Zara could never really say that there had been a point in her life before she'd met Beau that she had been truly happy. Her childhood hadn't been hard, per se, but being as painfully shy as she tended to be, she'd been teased quite a bit. Those who taunted her knew she wouldn't fight back, and so they'd found their pleasure in trying to push her into the ground with their scarring words. As much as she tried to ignore them, she had to admit that they'd gotten through to her. Gradually, though, as she got older, the teasing became less and less. People started to mature slightly, she being no exception. But she began to find true friends. People who would stick by her side no matter what. And this was enough to push away any of the nay sayers. As long as Zara had people by her side to count on, she could be happy. But it wasn't until someone actually showed her the time of day in a romantic way that she began to reach her full potential for happiness. Maybe it was part of why she loved him so much, the mere fact that he'd been the first guy to see her as more than a friend. That she knew of, anyway. The point was that people would just never understand. Even with everything he did to her, and all of the pain that he put her though, he still made her the happiest she'd ever been in her life. With all of the good times they shared, she forgot the bad. It was in her nature, after all. Though, she knew it wasn't quite in the nature of her friends to see only the good. They would see only the bad. Such as Maddox. He really was a caring person and she loved him deeply for it. She knew the reason he was so angry. Zara and Savannah had been severely hurt by someone whom they had trusted. And it sicked him. He didn't have the unconditional sort of love for Beau that Zara did. And so all he had room left for was anger. She could see it in his eyes the moment he'd taken a look at her. The anger from what he knew was going on but was powerless to stop. The young girl actually felt sorry for him. he didn't deserve the stress. He really didn't. Zara's heart sank when he told her that Lissy wasn't home. She'd so been hoping to speak with her. The disappointment showed on her face before she noticed that he seemed to be struggling with his own emotions. In a split second, she realized that his mind was no longer on Lissy but back on the previous subject. Crap. Her gaze saddened with his next words. They were showing just how much this situation was wearing down on him. He promptly told her to come and she obeyed almost against her will. She could have turned around and tried to escape, but she was well aware, especially in her state, that he was much quicker than she was. When she finally faced him again, she spoke before he had the chance to. "Please don't start, Maddox. I really don't have the energy for this." She gave him a pleading look that she hoped he couldn't ignore. She didn't want to fight about Beau. She didn't want to fight at all. She'd had enough of that to last a lifetime.

He knew it would make all the people in his life happy if he just left this entire situation alone. Hell, it would make Maddox happy if he could leave the situation alone. But it wasn't in his nature to abandon the people he loved to a fate as awful as trying to deal with an abusive boyfriend or an abusive best friend. No one deserved to try and help someone like that alone, and Maddox would try to help, as soon as he calmed down enough to possibly try and view the situation logically. Right now, he was still too caught up in the entire fact that beau wilkerson, a boy that he used to be best friends with, had grown so different, so out of anything Maddox would expect... that he'd hit a woman. He'd hit people he supposedly cared about. When Beau and Maddox started drifting, the younger boy had thought it was possibly for the best. People always grew apart, right? And he hadn't really cared when Lissy filled in his spot at Beau's side, becoming his best friend. It was just the way life worked. He had all the people he cared about, still. Beau would always be his friend, he told himself. But now, he couldn't think that anymore. Beau had changed. He had changed far too much, and Maddox didn't think he'd ever find it within himself to forgive the older boy. Truth be told, he was annoyed with Zara. Annoyed with the fact she was just letting it happen, that she thought Beau didn't mean to and that he could be changed and that she would be the one to change him. In Maddie's mind, that was all fucking bull shit. Seeing her there at that point, that all came bubbling back to his mind and when she closed the door behind her and spoke before he could get off another word... it totally made something simmer and snap inside of him. Maddox clenched his jaw together, putting his hands on his hips as he tried to control his temper. But he couldn't control the way his words lashed out, the way his tone was elevated and the way his eyes flashed as he turned his chocolate gaze on her, "Don't even start, Zara? Don't even start? It's already fucking started! This entire situation is bull shit! You dont have the energy? Why, because you used it all up when your boyfriend beat the shit out of you again last night?" His tone grew harsher and harsher, and soon he was yelling in a voice that boomed. STATUS: finished! TAGGED: zara montes OUTFIT: right hurr LISTENING TO: nothing. NOTES: =[

Miss Montes would never understand why or how people could get as angry as they did. She just didn't get it. Anger was not a part of her system, really. A gentle creature by nature, Zara would much rather forgive and forget than get so worked up over things. Granted, she'd experienced many problems in her life that she could get furious over. But what was the point? It only made things much worse in her opinion. She liked approaching things in a calm and collective manner. And in all actuality, Zara just didn't know how to hate someone. She was so full of love and life and optimism that the emotion simply didn't have room in her heart. It was all a part of why she was so tragically innocent. Especially if she was fond of you in any way. If that were the case, then you simply could do no wrong. Even if you were pummeling her into the ground the way that a certain someone so often did, she would still love you. Because her love was blind and unpolluted. She supposed this made her gullible to certain things. Mostly when someone said that they were sorry or that they would never treat her in such a way again. She tended to believe them because it simply wasn't her nature to be suspicious or second guessing. Besides, she wanted to believe that people could change for the better. She wanted to think that everyone was good and as well-intentioned as she was. Wouldn't it have made for such a better world if they were? Unfortunately it was just not so. It was really too bad that the young girl could not see it. Even then, as Maddox's anger began to peak, she knew she would forgive him for anything that he was about to say or do. He was one of her best friends, and therefore pardoned from all sins. But that didn't mean that he couldn't hurt her. Because he could. Very easily. She watched cautiously as he placed his hands on his hips, obviously preparing for some intense speech. His voice came out louder than the last time and she crossed her arms protectively in front of her. It was habit, really. Because physical pain always seemed to accompany the shouting. By the time he finished he was positively screaming at her and his words hit her heart with the force to rival a sledge hammer. She opened her mouth to speak, but shut it again. She couldn't say no. He already knew what went on. And the one bruise that was visible had proven his last sentence. It was a good thing he couldn't see the rest. Without realizing it, she felt the familiar feeling of hot tears welling up in her eyes. It was obvious that he'd struck a chord with her. Her gaze hit the floor as she tightened the grip on her middle section. At the moment, Zara wished she was anywhere but there. She didn't want this conversation. Not one bit. "Please." She said, barely above a whisper. She didn't know what else to do. So she waited for him to say or do something else. He might as well finish shouting at her now so she could be free to break down somewhere else. Stupid emotions.

It was funny, because people with tempers always annoyed the hell out of him. His father was prone to ridiculous bouts of anger and sullen attitude whenever he didn't get his way. It happened whenever work came around or whenever he'd had an intense conversation with his mother. Mr. Kostos, and Maddox would never acknowledge this for the simple fact that he really didn't like his father because he chose favorites in the family, was a lot like Maddox. He did the same thing when he found out something he didn't like or was in a fight with someone he cared about. Just his like, the people he cared about were his best friends and his sister, and he was fighting with all of them. He could take a different road, trying to mellowly talk out the situation. But, that just wasn't how he handled things. Maddox was fast paced. He did things quickly and he didn't like to go back and dwell. Mostly, this lead to him saying or doing things before his mind could really catch up. And that led to quite a few sticky situations. He was familiar with those, constantly getting into trouble at school and with Savannah. He'd almost been arrested once for his quick mouth, but he'd managed to keep from getting into too much trouble because of another thing: when Maddox Kostos knew how to turn on the charm, he sure as hell could do it. Most of the time, that was because even though he was annoyed with the person who was holding him back from his antics, he could always manage to get past that and turn on his charm. But with this... he couldn't do it. He was too damn mad. It would take something big for him to get his mind off of his anger, now. Maddox shook his head, the words continuing to flow out of his mouth, "I wonder how many fucking bruises he's given you. I wonder if he's broken any bones. I'm sure he enjoys ever single second of hearing you cry out in pain." A low stream of curse words, then he continued on, "And you're stupid for letting it happen and just not getting out of the situation!" His eyes turned on her, and he heard her quiet plead. His eyes assessed her position, and then they narrowed. She was holding herself, as though she were about to be hit. The position chilled him to the core, and he said icily, "Does he ever quit hitting you when you say please?' the disgust was evident in his voice. STATUS: finished! Zara had never thought that her laid back attitude would come back to haunt her. But lately it seemed it was. With Beau and even with Maddox. The people in her life who were so hot tempered weren't standing for her meek actions. Which was saddening to the young girl. She didn't want people to be angry with her. In fact, she often did everything she could to keep it from happening. Even if it meant that she would be unhappy. As long as those she loved were happy with her, she wouldn't mind. But now, it seemed that everyone was angry at her. Beau was getting more and more hostile, her friends were getting irritated with her for not doing something about her relationship. It was all getting to be too much for her. All of the negativity was starting to take a toll on her stress level. And really, it didn't have to be that way. If everyone just took a step back and calmed down, they would realize how silly they were acting. There was no need to be so angry. Maybe if her role was reversed with one of them, she would realize why they were so frustrated with her. She was obviously doing something wrong. But as hard as she tried, she couldn't seem to change the path she was on. No matter how badly her friends wanted her to. Honestly, if Maddox thought he was helping his case by standing here shouting at her, then he had another thing coming. The only goal he was reaching was causing Zara to sink into herself. A technique she often used with Beau. As the hateful words kept spilling from his mouth, she had no choice but to listen. At his comment of Beau enjoying her pain, her gaze snapped back up to him with defiance. "No! He doesn't enjoy it at all. He... he loves me." Zara had meant for her words to be much more harsh than they had come out, but it was just too difficult. Maddox's angry glare was burning through her indignation. She shook her head slowly. "Don't you think I know that? I know it's stupid to stay with him. I know it's stupid to let him do what he does. But I just can't leave him. You don't understand." Her voice was positively desperate by the end and she could only hope it would do something to quell his anger. The young man's question only proved to be the catalyst that caused her threatening tears to finally fall. But she made no effort to wipe them away. Her gaze was on the floor once again as she answered in a low voice. "Sometimes." Why? Why did all the men in her life have the uncanny ability to make her cry? This was all so unfair.

He always knew that Zara was laid back, that she typically avoided confrontation at all costs and hated any type of argument or disagreement. That was why the way she was had just spoken to the inner, overprotective big brother in him and he'd automatically become her friend. He loved her to death, and he would do absolutely anything for her, to protect her. And that was a reason why he was so upset. Because he hadn't been able to a damn thing about what had happened to her, and worse, she didn't even want him to. Maddox didn't understand how Zara could still love Beau after everything he did to her. Pity? Or she was afraid to leave. That was probably that most likely solution. The poor boy just couldn't grasp in his mind the love Zara Montes seemed to carry for Beau Wilkerson. God only knew he didn't deserve it. What he deserved was someone beating him worse than he had beat the girls in his life, which had better not have included his sister. Words couldn't even describe how the simple thought sent his blood pressure shooting through the roof. That wasn't something he could allow himself to think about, not at that point. He was too focused on Zara's situation. And her defiant words. Maddox couldn't even bring himself to respond. All he could do was scoff. Scoff at her naivete. Then his eyes flashed once more at her words. She loved him. She couldn't leave him. He didn't understand. "You're damn fucking right I don't understand! Jesus, Zara! You can't leave the person who strikes the most fear into your heart whenever he so much as bats an eyelash the wrong way?" He looked down, taking a deep breath, trying to calm himself down. He was losing it, and he needed to take a couple steps back and calm down. Maddox clenched his jaw, continuing his deep breathing, and he finally looked back up again. His eyes met hers, scanned her face, and instantly his eyes began to lose their fire. The tears streaming down her face were evident, and instantly he felt awful for driving her to that point. "Oh, Zara. I'm sorry. Please don't cry... I..." He couldn't even finish. Maddox strode forward, stopping in front of her and gently taking her face in his hands and he wiped the tears away. "I'm sorry." He repeated again. This was what he got for letting his temper get away with him. Slowly, he allowed his hands to drop to her shoulders as he pulled her forward gently and wrapped his arms around her, hugging her gently yet firmly. This hadn't been what he wanted.
