Zara Montes was currently experiencing a lot of ups and downs in her life lately. Unfortunately, the downs were beating the ups and she was just getting so tired of it. She was tired of all the hate and she was tired of being told what she should or shouldn't do. Everyone was throwing their opinions at her, all trying to get her to do the one thing she didn't want to. Granted, she knew they were only trying to help, but she was starting to get annoyed with it all. She loved her friends, she really did. But when they were constantly bombarding her with demands to leave her current boyfriend, she couldn't help but get a little miffed. Zara just simply didn't have it in her to hate, and so she would never hate them for how they were acting towards her. She just needed some time away from it all. She needed a little bit of piece. Maybe their intentions were to get her to break and to do it just to get them to leave her alone, but she wasn't going to give in. Not while her heart was still so wrapped around mister Beau Wilkerson's finger. Through all of the bad and all of the resistance, there was one thing that she knew with all of her heart. She loved him. And that was all that mattered. Granted, he could break her apart so easily, but then he could put her right back together. And not every moment with him was one spent in terror. They had their simple times as well. Such as the day they were currently both ready for. A carnival had come to town, and Zara had begged him to take her. The young girl had been overjoyed when he'd agreed. And so that was where they were. Times like this was what Zara looked forward to. Where she knew that she would be having a good time and that she didn't need to be afraid of him. It always helped to be in public, as well. The bruises that he'd last given her were fading nicely and she did her best to pretend they didn't exist. But honestly, such thoughts were miles away from her as she eyes everything to see. The couple was walking hand-in-hand through the small area, deciding what they should do first. Everything seemed appealing to Zara. Her wide chocolate gaze was positively alight at the scene. There were families everywhere, most of them had smiles on their faces. A carnival always seemed to be a place where you just had to have a good time. Which was exactly what Zara intended to do. Turning to Beau with a grin, she spoke. "What are we doing first?" She asked in an innocent voice. Her eye then caught one of the booths and her gaze sparkled from joy. "Oh, look! Those bears are so adorable! Aren't they adorable, Beau?" She pointed towards the booth for him to see, before looking back to him to get his answer.

There were too many voices pressuring Beau, telling him what he was supposed to do, what he could be capable of. What the fuck did anyone know about him in the first place? They thought that he was just another sob story, another kid who had abuse in his house and had become damaged because of it. Maybe that was part of it, but there was so much more that plagued the young man. He had his own demons to deal with, such as his growing alcoholism and the fact that his anger was getting out of control. Beau could eventually forgive himself after he had hit his girlfriends, thinking that he would never do it again. Every time he thought that, he was dead wrong. It was in his nature to just lash out, without any regard to the repercussions. If any of those girls had wanted, they could have landed him in jail. Plainly put, his life was a huge mess and he didn't even know where to begin. One thing was for sure - he couldn't sort it out by himself. Few people dared to stand by him now, one of those being Lisette, his best friend, and the other his girlfriend Zara. As much as Beau pushed people away, he was really just hurting outside. All he wanted was for someone to look at him and realize how much he was suffering, and put him out of his misery. He didn't want to be that way - what sane person did? It killed him to watch Zara cry every time he hit her, but he continued to do it anyway because he had lost his grip on control a long time ago. Whenever they suffered a rough patch (which seemed to be happening more and more often with them, these days), he just hoped that she wouldn't leave him and waited until they could be happy again. Tonight was a night where they could enjoy themselves. Beau was currently entering a carnival hand in hand with Zara, because she had wanted to come so badly. He couldn't really ever say no to her when it came to things like this. He tugged her closer as they walked, enjoying her look of wide-eyed wonder, and then gave her a few kisses on the top of her head affectionately. Really, he did love her, and it was obvious in the way that his hazel eyes would hardly leave her for a second. The bruises that he could see were a painful reminder of what he was capable of doing to her, but he pushed that to the back of his mind. "Whatever you want to do, baby," he replied, his handsome face relaxed into a smile. He nodded at her comment about the bears and then lead her over to the booth, wanting to win her one. It turned out that the booth was fairly easy to play - all he had to do was pop a few balloons, and the biggest teddy was hers. "How about I get you one?" Beau asked her, with a tiny laugh at her enthusiasm. At this point, he was willing to do just about whatever made her happy.

It wasn't hard to miss Zara to get lost in the moment when she was enjoying herself. She'd always been the type of person who valued the good times. Because you never really did know when they were going to come to an end. This was something she knew only too well and lived by it every day. Things had a way of turning completely upside down when you least expected it. So, to keep that from happening, she tried to expect that whenever something was good, there was a very big possibility that it would turn bad. This wasn't to say that she was a pessimist. Not exactly. But she was a lot less naive than she used to be. While she still only saw the good in other people and couldn't hold a grudge to save her life, she was well aware that life had a way of spinning things out of control. Even so, Zara was determined to make the most of what she had. After all, if there was such an easy chance of it slipping away, she wasn't going to take it for granted. Even something as simple as a trip to a carnival. She would cherish every moment. Because it might just be what got her through the next hard time that she had to face. For the moment, though, she had successfully pushed any negative thoughts out of her mind and was purely focusing on the here and now. It helped extremely that this was one of Beau's better days. One of the days where he was the boy she'd fallen in love with. She couldn't keep the grin from her face as he tugged her closer and planted a kiss on top of her head. It was actions like that that truly made her feel special, whether he realized it or not. His answer to her question only made her wonder just what it was she wanted to do first. That is, until she was distracted by the utterly adorable teddy bears in one of the booths. After nodding at her next question, he lead her to the booth and she was free to ogle closely. They were even cuter up close. This really wasn't fair. She tore her eyes away from the stuffed animals and looked back to Beau at his question. Her eyes widened a little bit more. "Really?" She asked, as if she couldn't believe that he'd do something so nice for her. "Oh, please." Zara's face turned into a pleading pout much like a child when they were trying to get their parents to buy them something. Now that he'd put the idea that she could have one in her head, she would be horribly disappointed if she didn't get it. But, she knew that he would have no problem in attaining it. He could do anything, after all.

As always, Zara's happiness was absolutely infectious. She was a girl who believed that every moment should be enjoyed, and it was rubbing off on Beau on this particular night. The lights and the people around him at the carnival would have usually irritated him a little, but all of it faded into background noise and he only had eyes for the girl besides him. She was the most perfect person he'd ever seen, with her dark hair tumbling around her shoulders and her eyes bright with excitement. Beau felt damn lucky to have her, and he couldn't bear the thought of losing her. She made him want to be a better person, whether or not that was evident by his behavior. The fact that they were together in this way, hands clasped and smiles on their faces, was amazing in itself. Just a few days ago, they had been fighting and Beau had lashed out against her. The change in the young man was remarkable - there was no anger visible on his face, his hazel eyes were bright and there was even a small grin on his face, his lips parted to reveal a row of gleaming teeth. He absently rubbed circles onto the back of her hand with his thumb, a comforting motion, simply enjoying the look on her face after she'd received his kisses. Times like this made him wonder why he would ever raise a hand against her, but it wasn't as though he consciously went to hurt her; Beau lost the handle on his temper and before he knew it, he would strike out in the only way he knew, which was physically. He wished there was some way for him to make her forget everything, that they could start over new, but he knew it was impossible. The best thing he could now was to keep her smiling, and right now the teddy bear would probably do the trick. "Yes, really," he replied, giving her another kiss on her head before momentarily letting go of her hand. He paid the five dollars that it took for him to get three darts, and then launched one. Unfortunately it missed, which made him just a little angry. No big, he had two more. Determined to keep his cool, Beau threw the second one and it came a little closer to the balloon in the single. His jaw clenched, a tell-tale sign that he was getting pissed, but he didn't allow it to escalate. Getting that frustrated would embarrass and scare Zara, and they were meant to have fun. He took a last shot and nailed it, luckily enough, and then accepted the bear for her. It wasn't too big, just the right size to cuddle with. It also helped that it was extremely soft to the touch. "Here you are," he smiled, every bit the proud boyfriend as he passed the toy into her arms. Beau slung his arm around her waist and looked down at her fondly for a moment, before asking, "Now what, princess?" It seemed like nothing could ruin this moment between them.

It was so comforting to be experiencing a night such as this. With all that had been going on lately, she needed something just to clear her head with for a little while. She could escape the stress and the pain and fear all for a short couple of hours. It was a healing process of sorts for the young girl. When all she had to worry about was what ride she would ride first or if she should get a candy or caramel apple, it was safe to say that her stress level was exceedingly low. She was free to enjoy everything about the evening. The friendly atmosphere, the smell of popcorn and cotton candy, and the companion she was currently walking with. It was one of the days where she felt completely safe with him. Though she knew that this could change in an instant. Beau's temper didn't really have a set schedule, and almost anything could set him off. But it didn't seem that he had any reasons to be angry at the moment. After all, how could you be angry at a carnival? They were just so much fun. One of the worst things that could happen would be to get sick from eating before going on a ride. Something Zara did not intend to do. No, she simply planned on having nothing but a good time. And so, when Beau told her when he really would win her something and gave her another affectionate kiss on the head, she couldn't help but get just a little too excited. Her grin widened and she brought her hands into a very small clap, before lacing her fingers together in a praying fashion. She watched as he paid for the darts and turned to the balloons. Her gaze was intent on his hand as he threw the first dart. It missed and her heart sank slightly. She moved her chocolate eyes to his face and saw that he'd already gotten irritated at it. Now she really was praying. Praying that he would make the next shot so he wouldn't have a reason to get mad. His second shot also missed and Zara could feel the familiar fear that he would begin to lose his temper completely. Maybe this had been a bad idea. The bears weren't that cute. But fortunately he made the last shot and the anger disappeared from his face. Relief swept through Zara as this happened. When he handed the bear to her, Zara's smile was back in full force and she was already forgetting the almost disaster. "Thank you." She said before pushing herself up on her tips toes and landing a swift kiss on his lips. "I love it. It's so cute!" Beau slung his arm around her waist and she leaned into him instinctively. Zara took her eyes off of her prize and looked up into his hazel orbs at his question. "Uhm. I don't know." She scanned the area thoughtfully until she found something she might want to try. "Oh, what about the roller coaster?" She asked, hoping he wouldn't mind going on it. She did love roller coasters. Even if they did scare her silly sometimes.

If Beau had any idea just how many people were opposed to the relationship he had with Zara, he would have been overwhelmed. No one understood what they had between them, so their judgments never disturbed in anyway. However, he would have been a little bothered by the fact that other people wanted her to leave him, because that was his worst nightmare. He could be beaten, yelled at, and any other manner of terrible things and he would survive it, but being alone was his breaking point. It was as though he wasn't able to function when there was no one there for him to be with. Beau only wanted the best for his girlfriend, but that wasn't him, and he knew it. She could do so much better than him, she deserved better than him. Every time he looked into her chocolate eyes, he knew that she was so in love with him that she would stand by him no matter what, and that was reassuring despite the fact that she really should leave for her own good. The young man honestly did adore her with every little piece of his heart, he just couldn't control his nasty temper and then she ended up hurt. The worst was watching her on the floor, crying and begging him to please stop. Everyone had a breaking point, and Zara was only human after all. He tried not to think about it as he watched her squeeze the teddy bear; he knew that she had been scared he would lose his temper there in public, but thankfully that didn't occur. Beau gladly accepted the kiss on the lips, as brief as it was, and then they were on their way to see the rest of the sights. "You're welcome," he replied, linking his fingers with her free hand and flashing her his handsome, crooked grin. There were no traces of the terrible person that he could be, when he was like this - he was simply the charming, gentle Beau that everyone loved to have around. Shame he couldn't remain that way, but all good things came to an inevitable end. His dark brows raised down at Zara as she suggested a roller coaster, but of course he caved to her demand and started walking toward the attraction. "I thought you were scared of those," he laughed, but not objecting to the idea. He for one loved roller coasters, the adrenaline rush was amazing. In the silence between them, Beau added, "Did I tell you how gorgeous you look tonight? I think I did, but I can never be too sure." This was most certainly the young man she was in love with, through and through, and there was no doubt that he was in love with her as well.

Zara didn't know what it was like, not being able to be alone. She had been alone for most of her life. She didn't have any siblings, her father was often away on business trips, and her mother was just the kind of person who couldn't sit still. And so she had grown with the attitude that she could take care of herself. She knew how to cook, clean, and any number of every day duties that she would need in the real world. Zara was also very smart, despite what she told everyone. So, in a sense, she didn't need anyone. But she did understand how it could feel to want someone so badly that it slowly turned into a subconscious need to have them around. It was almost as if she couldn't breathe without Beau. His presence, on his gentle days, was something that she had convinced herself that she simply could not live without. In a way, it was very similar to addiction, in the sense that she so desperately needed her fix of the young man. However, it was very different than the way Beau needed her. She could tell that he didn't like being alone. It wasn't like she was his first girlfriend, after all. And he had quite a few friends. Zara would never know why others craved the attention of the people around them. She was content to live in her own thoughts at times. She didn't need constant human contact. Which, she supposed, was odd to people like Beau. This wasn't to say that she didn't enjoy others' company. Especially the company of her significant other. When he wanted to be, he was all she ever needed. And in simple moments like this one, where they were doing nothing but exploring a carnival, it was very hard to imagine her life without him in it. Beau had no idea how happy she was that he'd managed to control his temper to keep this evening peaceful. It was all she really wanted when she was around him. As he linked his fingers in hers, she grasped his hand tightly, basking in the way they seemed to fit so perfectly in each other. She returned his dazzling smile, though not nearly as brightly. Zara would never tire of the butterflies that he always seemed to waken inside of her with a smile like that. As they began to walk towards the roller coaster that she had suggested, she listened to him question her decision. "Well, I wouldn't say scared exactly. More like... okay, yeah. They do scare me. But, they're really fun, too!" She looked up at him, her brown eyes wide with innocence and excitement. As she looked back down, he complimented on her appearance and she had to hide the blush that suddenly crept up on her cheeks. She could never quite get used to it when he told her she was beautiful. What a silly notion. "Thank you." She managed as she looked back up at him once again, love in every inch of her expression. "You look really nice, too." Yes, she was aware of how terrible that sounded next to what he'd said, but it was true. He did look nice. In more than one sense of the word.
